インドから東南アジアに広く分布するが、近年南大東島から得られている。おそらくどこかから人為的に移入されたものであろう。ササクダアザミウマP. sasacola Kurosawaに非常によく似るが、次のような形質により区別できる：頭部はやや幅広；触角第４節には通常の2本の感覚錘に加え１本の小さな感覚錘を外側に備える；触角第１節は頭部とほぼ同じ褐色（sasacolaでは黄色で、頭部より明らかに淡い）；前翅の基部刺毛はS1とS2が通常先端が広がる（sasacolaではすべて先端がとがる）；尾管は頭部の約0.５倍の長さ（sasacolaでは約0.6倍）。タケ類の葉鞘下に生息し、カイガラムシを捕食する。

This species is widely distributed from India to Southeast Asia, but in recent years it has been obtained from Minami-Daito Is. It was probably artificially imported from somewhere. It is very similar to P. sasacola Kurosawa, but can be distinguished by the following features: head somewhat wider; antennal segment IV with an outer small sense cone, in addition to the usual two major sense cones; antennal segment I brown, almost as dark as head (yellow, much paler than head in sasacola); sub-basal wing setae S1 and S2 expanded (all three sub-basal wing setae pointed in sasacola); tube about 0.5 times as long as head in female (about 0.6 times in sasacola). This species lives under the leaf sheaths of bamboo and preys on scale insects.
